Thinking about protecting your brand and other security issues?
By Sa Ra
For those with already "branded businesses" and those looking to build and maintain one, have you ever thought about what it takes to protect it? I recently came across a two informational resources that I wanted to share with anyone interested in brand protection and online security. In short, the online world is hijacked all the time by scammers. This year you can expect that the BRANDJACKERS will be busy, hijacking well-known brands for their benefit. As you grow and maintain your brand, can you honestly say that you have the right online brand protection strategy in place for 2011? Because there's no doubt about it, that from stealing web traffic and selling counterfeit goods to these scammers will be busy, ruining your efforts and reputation. Take for instance Michael Jordan. I sure wish that Mr. Michael Jordan's company would have put more effort into protecting his brand. I recently ordered a pair of Jordan Heels and Sneakers from a website, with his logo, that turned out to be fake. Shame on me for being comfortable with the internet and not looking for the BBB sign. I blogged about my ordeal about a week ago. CLICK HERE TO READ THE POST It's a shame that a brand a big as Jordan is letting this kind of nonsense take place. As funny as it may sound, this is a situation in which you don't "wanna be like Mike" or his brand. Now is the time to get started—and get proactive—on developing a solid online brand protection strategy that will safeguard your marketing investments, revenues, and most importantly, customer trust. You can sign up to download an easy-to-read guide and learn how you can further strengthen the brand equity and customer loyalty you've worked so hard to build. With their quick, complimentary checklist, you can learn: * Why now—more than ever—companies need to monitor their brands online * Why brands need to shut down scammers' deceptive online promotions * How to prepare for the launch of new gTLDs * Where to focus your anti-counterfeiting efforts for the greatest impact The Top 10 Online Brand Protection Strategies for 2011, Free MarkMonitor® Guide The other resource I came across is an excerpt that deals with online security. It's called "Scrappy Information Security", which offered free by Happy About. Basically, this one should be read by anyone who cares about the security and privacy of their online information, and wants to know how to take steps to protect it - which should be all of us! We should all seek to learn and know how to "do the right thing" in order to ensure that we don't accidentally leak sensitive information. Sure, most corporations do their best to hammer home the message of security through training, communications, and outright begging. In reality, none of us would tolerate a crime spree in our neighborhood. Likewise, we shouldn't tolerate one on the web, one which truly threatens to stifle (our BUSINESSES) the e-commerce and e-communications that we have come to know and rely on. Click here to to get Scrappy Information Security, Free Happy About eBook Excerpt . Please feel free to come back and tell me what you think.

Sounds like good advice
I'd never heard of the term "brandjackers" but this makes a lot of sense. Companies need to be proactive and preemptively stamp out those who infiltrate their brand space. Great article about a phenomenon which will only grow.

Yes, indeed, it concerns all of us. Thank you for the heads up.
Brandjacking is not a term or an action I really thought about. I suppose it is something I should consider though since I'm trying to brand my own business. Thanks for the intel!
